Bright meteor illuminates the sky over Cheektowaga [VIDEO]

Has anyone seen it? If so, then you probably noticed how bright it was for a few seconds.

It was a meteor that was apparently noticed by many on Sunday morning shortly after midnight. Given the time of night it came across the sky, it makes sense that many missed it.

Corresponding WGRZ, the meteor has been reported from Toronto to Virginia by over 200, and it has also been seen here in western New York.

WGRZ reports that Julie in Cheektowaga captured the meteor with her doorbell camera and you can definitely see that it was indeed a meteor.

Tim Collins, astronomer at Kellogg Observatory, says that it was a coincidental event. He added that such sightings can happen, but it’s nothing to be afraid of.

Collins predicts that the Ontario meteor entered Earth’s atmosphere and traveled through western New York and beyond. However, we don’t know where it ended up. It could be the Atlantic, but we’ll never know for sure.

I always wake up until 3 a.m. on my on-air shift, even on weekends, so I was ready for that meteorite sighting, but unfortunately I was in my living room and not outside.

Has anyone seen this meteor? We can see it was recorded via Cheektowaga, but curious to see if others have a story or a picture of it.
