Newcastle United signed Matt Targett in January, and they hope to sign him again this summer.
The left-back joined the Magpies on loan from Aston Villa, arriving on deadline day on a deal until the end of the season.
Targett has already impressed at St James’ Park, prompting calls from fans for the 26-year-old to be signed permanently.
It could be easier than expected, as Newcastle have already reached an agreement in principle with Aston Villa.
HITC Sport’s first new signing unveiled
That’s according to the Chronicle, who claim Newcastle can sign Targett for £15million.
He has excelled since moving to the North East, proving to be one of our best left-backs in years. And a man who knows a thing or two about playing left-back for Newcastle is Jose Enrique.
The Spaniard spoke to the Chronicle recently, and given his reaction to claims that Targett could become a permanent magpie.

Jose Enrique suggests Newcastle should sign another left-back alongside Matt Targett
“That’s a lot of money, people are talking about £15million [for Targett] like it was nothing but it was a lot of money,” Enrique told the Chronicle.
“Obviously if that’s what Newcastle want, they can afford it with these owners.
“But, maybe they can afford something bigger in the summer. You don’t know, they signed [Kieran] Trippier on the right side. With all due respect to Matty, obviously he’s not Trippier. It is reality.

“He’s a very good player and I like him a lot. It could be an option to sign him, but it could also be an option to sign someone bigger too, and to have two very good options to the left rear.
Targett is the man Newcastle need this summer
Newcastle can probably land someone bigger than Targett this summer. But that doesn’t necessarily mean they should.
It has been reported that Toon owners are looking for quality not quantity in the transfer market. There will be no ridiculous budget.

With that in mind, Targett is absolutely the man Newcastle need. He’s already proven to suit Eddie Howe’s style of play – I don’t think he’s taken the wrong foot since joining the club.
And at £15million, it won’t take too much of a budget. This will allow Howe to strengthen his team in more pressing areas.
With the way Targett is playing, finding an improvement shouldn’t be a priority for Newcastle. He’s the man they need.
