Sonic 2 begins production with the first set photo

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is officially in production.

(Given the subject matter, we’re assuming it will be a very quick shoot.)

The announcement that filming was underway on the sequel to the hit 2020 video game adaptation was made by the director Jeff Fowler on Twitter, who wrote “Lights, camera, hedgehogs. production on Sonic the Hedgehog 2 starts TODAY!” He also shared the first photo from the film’s set, which shows a director’s chair with the new film’s logo on it — making it clear that Sonic’s longtime video game buddy Tails will make an appearance this time around.

Tails had a cameo appearance in a post-credits scene in the first phase Sonic the Hedgehog:

The fact that sound gets a sequel at all is kind of remarkable. The initial design for his title character was so widely reviled that the film was postponed while the visual effects artists were able to completely revamp it more closely resembles its video game counterpart. It seemed like an act of desperation, but it worked; thanks to the Covid-related theater closures in summer and autumn, Sonic the Hedgehog was only the third highest-grossing film of 2020 bad boys for life and 1917 All of the stars from the first film, including Jim Carrey, James Marsden, Tika Sumpter and Ben Schwartz as the voice of Sonic, are expected to return sound 2

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is scheduled to hit theaters on April 8, 2022.
