Antoine Martial hope to trade Manchester United for Sevilla in the January transfer window after reaching a “tentative deal” with the Spanish club, but the Frenchman’s high salaries remain a major obstacle to securing a deal.
Martial’s days with the Red Devils appear to be numbered and the 26-year-old is keen to join Julen Lopetegui’s side next month in a bid to secure consistent playing time, according to Mundo Deportivo.
But any move to the La Liga club would come on a loan deal, as Sevilla still want United to pay part of their huge salaries which are in the order of £ 250,000 a week.
It is “absolutely unaffordable” for the Andalusian side, which means that Martial may have to suffer a significant pay cut to force the movement.
But there could be a sting in the tail, as TuttoMercatoWeb reporter Enzo Bucchioni claims Juventus could explore the possibility of a transfer for Martial.
Wherever he ends up, his new club are hoping to see a quick return to form for the Frenchman who has only seen him score once in 10 appearances in all competitions this season.
He has had a largely disappointing six years at Old Trafford and hasn’t quite managed to justify the £ 36million the club paid Monaco for his services in September 2015.
His best season at the club came in the 2019/20 season, where Martial scored 23 goals in 48 appearances across all competitions.
Sadly, he was unable to translate that form into the following campaign, finding the net just seven times in 37 appearances.
It will be fascinating to see where the attacker ends up once the window opens in eight days.
